Here's a link that covers the story about how XP Patch 811493 can slow some XP systems down to a crawl. I know I've been fretting because my 2-week old system suddenly went from a speed demon to a sloth. It took it forever to do anything. After uninstalling the patch, my machine is back to its wonderful speedy self.

I'm not recommending that anybody uninstall the patch, just passing along information so that you can make an informed decision...

I can stop if certain individuals can stop getting on my case, accept I am sorry, and pretend like this night never happened.

It did happen BUT we are the ones who started it. I took responsibility for my actions by writing personal emails to the ones who had to put up with it all. You should to. Why should BoXXi say sorry or Baker? those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Okay, I understand now that by behaving the way I did, I brought the way they treated me unto myself. I am sincerely sorry.

wait... I thought you couldn't un-install a patch. How did you do it?

Doesn't it over write older ini files or dll files and excutables?

The slow downs are most likely related because you installed the patch with AV enabled, NVIDIA tells you to do same when installing their software to disable any AV so it does not interfere with installation, when it comes to system files i always disable AV.

that must be a new XP feature. from what I gathered, patches replaced files and so there is no longer a original archive to go back to.

I don't have XP thoug but at least I'll know what to do when I get it.

Thanks

All these little small patches will be in Service Pack 2 anyway, but im not sure when that is due, as i think its just went into Beta for developers.

"Usually the people that say Windows work just fine are the people that only use their computer for less advanced uses such as playing solitaire. People who do more technical things with their computer know first hand the short comings of Windows."

Yeah, sure... Sitting at my job (IT) and at home doing nothing more than playing solutaire.
