Here's a link that covers the story about how XP Patch 811493 can slow some XP systems down to a crawl. I know I've been fretting because my 2-week old system suddenly went from a speed demon to a sloth. It took it forever to do anything. After uninstalling the patch, my machine is back to its wonderful speedy self.

I'm not recommending that anybody uninstall the patch, just passing along information so that you can make an informed decision...

I don't this either of you will be exiled...this is too much fun for the rest of us...

jj...I develop enterprise level software for very large corporations. These are developed using MS products and are extremely technical in nature. I have been using win2000 since it came out and have not had one blue screen of death yet.

Many of my clients do have linux web servers. Do you know what a web server does?...Not much actually...just takes requests and serves up responses (usually with some sort of server side scripting thrown in). I would think with nearly 40 years of development, linux would be more stable doing this than any 'new-commer' would. That's why most companies use linux/unix servers.

As for serious development, I've seen very little of it done in corporate environments with linux.

I would think the reason for developing software in Windows using MS development tools would be because the software is being designed to run on Windows.

Not so...it's done using MS products because it is the most viable/cost effective platform for developing enterprise class software (Java has been gaining some ground, but .NET will be their demise). Software is designed to perform one or more functions, regardless of platform. The platform is usually decided by cost effectiveness.

A future where .NET kills Java? That's going to give me nightmares tonight.

Do you even understand the alternate meanings of the word "partition"?

here's a clue http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=partition

While you are there, look up "Imbecile", then you may understand how I feel about you and your pathetic spoutings.
